Having joined in 2005, TU Munich is currently the only German member of the Advanced Technology Higher Education Network Socrates (ATHENS).
The Network consists of 24 European institutions for higher education. ATHENS is an association of accredited European universities whose goal is to offer its students exciting and intensive one-week courses twice a year. These courses are offered every March and November at all host institutions simultaneously. Course topics are related with engineering, natural science, informatics and mathematics. Parallel to the courses students learn about the culture of the host country. In an international atmosphere students get a feeling for what it is like to study at the host university.
The program is intended for students at least in their third year of study and doctoral candidates. Participation is free. Travel and accommodations are the responsibility of the student.
The courses are about 30 hours and have a final exam. Students receive two ECTS credits for the course. The host institution organizes a 10 to 15-hour course to get to know the local culture and host institution.
The TUM offers two courses in autumn 17 - 24 March 2012:
The beginning of application is 22 December 2011. Apply online at www.athensprogramme.com. The application deadline: 02nd February 2012.
Evaluations show that course participants really enjoyed the courses as well as experiencing Munich, the wintery landscape and Bavarian castles. Students are always highly motivated and dynamic. The courses bring together a wonderful mix of students ranging from Norway to Italy and Portugal to Hungary. To keep the program alive and attractive, we need:
- Student promotion to join the classes offered abroad and at TUM
- Speakers who are enthusiastic about working with an interesting and diverse group of international students for one week
The ATHENS program is open to suggestions for offering new courses on special topics; trying new teaching methods; or offering an intensive course on a previously offered topic.
We look forward to your participation and would like to hear from interested candidates as soon as possible at:
